THE PHOENIX NEIGHBORHOOD COLLECTION

North Central
Phoenix.

A familiar corridor.
A closer look at the details.

A walk along the bridle path, a bag of market produce, brunch on 7th Street and a show at The Madison nearby: North Central offers plenty of ways to spend a Phoenix weekend. Get to know the Central Avenue corridor and the homes tucked around it.

Where to find North Central Phoenix.

Start with Central Avenue between Missouri and Northern. This guide follows the North Central Phoenix Homeowners Association’s area, between 7th Avenue and 7th Street. Other real estate descriptions use a wider area.

Some familiar stops sit just beyond those edges. Uptown Plaza is to the south, Luci’s at the Orchard is to the east and Royal Palm Park is to the west. They are included as nearby places so you can plan a fuller outing.

02 / HISTORY IN THE STREETSCAPE

Olive trees, citrus roots and Central Avenue.

The olive trees and horse-themed gateway at Central and Bethany Home are more than scenery. They point back to Orangewood, citrus growing and William J. Murphy’s development work. The bridle path keeps that history visible in the middle of a modern city.

Phoenix recognizes the Central Avenue streetscape from Bethany Home to the Arizona Canal on its historic register. It is another reason to notice the corridor as you explore.

Check the City historic register for the corridor’s designation.

A quick look at the homes.

The Central Avenue corridor brings together older homes, remodeled houses and later building. Its estate history and nearby historic neighborhoods give a home search plenty of variety.

Walk or drive a few streets while you are here. Notice the yards, layouts and settings you prefer. Windsor Square, nearby to the south, has its own history and is worth exploring separately.

04 / PLACES THAT MAKE IT LOCAL

Put these stops on your weekend list.

Uptown Farmers Market is a natural place to begin. Nearby to the south, Postino Central and Uptown Plaza add dining and shopping to the outing. The labels below make it easy to see which stops sit inside this guide’s core.

RESTAURANTS & EVERYDAY ROUTINES

Brunch, orchard patios and a scoop of ice cream.

There’s room for more than one kind of food outing around North Central. Try Otro for brunch, explore Luci’s orchard setting nearby or pair Windsor with a separate stop at Churn. These picks combine local character with favorable review feedback; dated sources appear below.

EASTERN EDGE OF THE CORE

Otro Café

6035 N. 7th Street

Otro has been on 7th Street north of Bethany Home since March 2013. Review excerpts mention flapjacks, huevos rancheros and tacos—plenty to consider for a brunch plan. Check the current menu for prices and specials.

NEARBY • EAST OF THE CORE

Luci’s at the Orchard

7100 N. 12th Street, Building 2

Luci’s at the Orchard makes the setting part of the outing: a restored ranch home, citrus trees, a patio and a market. Splurge Ice Cream & Candy Shop adds a sweet stop on site. Review excerpts mention breakfast and the outdoor space, along with busy periods and parking. Ask about the splash pad before visiting.

NEARBY • SOUTH OF MISSOURI

Windsor, with Churn nearby

5223 N. Central Avenue

Windsor’s patio, brunch and dinner menu offer another reason to head south of Missouri. Churn is a separate nearby stop when ice cream sounds right. Review excerpts mention cocktails and comfort food. Take a look at the current menu to plan your evening.

ARTS, LEARNING & COMMUNITY

An evening at the theater. A night among books.

The Madison Center for the Arts

The Madison Center for the Arts is at 5601 N. 16th Street, just north of Missouri. It sits east of this guide’s core. The 904-seat theater hosts performances and community programs. The venue says event proceeds support arts education and performances for Madison Elementary School District students.

Make a performance part of your neighborhood visit. The Madison lists a free parking garage south of the theater. Browse the show calendar for tickets and access details, and call to confirm box-office hours.

An amenity, not a school assignment

Use the district’s address lookup to check schools. Being close to the arts center does not confirm that a home is in a Madison attendance area.

Phoenix Boys Choir, at 1131 E. Missouri Avenue, is another nearby music resource. It offers training and a concert season. Check the choir’s own enrollment process and each concert’s venue.

Changing Hands & First Draft Book Bar

Books, a drink and an author event can make an evening at Changing Hands feel very different from dinner out. Its Phoenix store opened in 2014 at The Newton, the former Beef Eaters restaurant at 300 W. Camelback Road. First Draft Book Bar serves coffee, beer and wine. Check the calendar for book groups, trivia and events at the Phoenix branch.

MARKETS, PARADES & SEASONAL TRADITIONS

Market mornings and holiday parade nights.

A market morning and a holiday parade bring two different kinds of energy to the Central corridor. One fills a weekly shopping bag; the other puts floats, lights and marching bands on the calendar. Dates and routes below were checked October 10, 2026.

CORE • WEEKLY AND SEASONAL

Uptown Farmers Market

Normally at NPHX Church, 5757 N. Central Avenue, the market combines Arizona produce, prepared foods and handcrafted goods. The organizer lists Saturdays year-round and Wednesdays October through April. Current fall hours are Saturday 8 a.m.–1 p.m. and Wednesday 9 a.m.–1 p.m.; summer schedules differ. Check vendor lists and the live location notice before leaving.

CENTRAL CORRIDOR • DECEMBER 5, 2026

APS Electric Light Parade

The City lists the 39th annual holiday parade on December 5, 2026, starting at Central and Montebello. Illuminated entries and community participation make it a recognizable winter tradition. Montebello is south of Bethany Home—not Northern. Check the official route and step-off information, and plan for street closures.

CENTRAL CORRIDOR • JANUARY 2, 2027

Phoenix Children’s Fiesta Bowl Parade

The organizer’s October 7, 2026 announcement schedules the 54th annual parade for January 2, 2027 at 10 a.m. Marching bands, floats and community entries bring bowl-season pageantry to central Phoenix. The organizer’s quick facts identify Central and Montebello; use the current route map rather than assuming a Northern Avenue start.

NEARBY • DISTINCT POCKET WEST OF THE CORE

Royal Palm’s neighborhood traditions

Royal Palm Park, at 8405 N. 15th Avenue, sits in a separate neighborhood west of this guide’s core. Past calendars include a July Fourth parade, movie nights, Spring Fling, fun runs and holiday luminaria fundraisers. Check the neighborhood’s current calendar for the next event.

Two updates that old guides can miss

Uptown’s October 10, 2026 market temporarily moved to Church for the Nations at 6225 N. Central Avenue. The organizer lists a return to 5757 N. Central for October 14 and 17. Follow its current notice rather than treating the temporary address as permanent.

The Veterans Day Parade is a separate event. A September 30, 2026 organizer notice moves the November 11, 2026 parade to Third Street, traveling north from McDowell to Indian School at 11 a.m. This is farther south, outside the defined North Central core. Older organizer pages still show the former Central Avenue route, so use the newer announcement and recheck before attending.

Read the 2026 Veterans Day route change

Spend part of a home-tour day doing something you would want to repeat: visit the market, take a bridle-path walk or choose a restaurant. Try the route from the house and notice crossings, parking and shade. That is how an area guide becomes useful to your own routine.

05 / OUTDOORS & DAILY LIFE

Make time for the bridle path.

Explore the Central Avenue bridle path or Arizona Canal paths from a specific entry point. Check the surface, crossings, shade and any current work. Try the route from the home before counting on it for a daily walk.

Schools, arts and local pride.

Madison is one of the school districts to explore around North Central. The nearby Madison Center for the Arts adds a place to see performances and connect with arts education.

Use Madison’s boundary resources and Phoenix Union’s attendance maps for a home’s address. Broader searches may cross other district boundaries. Private schools such as Brophy and Xavier have separate admissions processes.

Make a day of your neighborhood visit.

Plan a market morning at Uptown, then choose brunch at Otro or a nearby visit to Luci’s at the Orchard. Add a bridle-path walk if the weather suits your plans.

For an evening, browse The Madison’s performances nearby or Changing Hands’ Phoenix event calendar farther south. In holiday season, check the Central corridor’s parade route and dates before heading out.
